Alicante History
Alicante history goes back as far as the prehistoric times, since the third millenium BC, archeological remains have been dicovered from this time. In 1490, Ferdinand II the Catholic, granted charter to the area, thus making it a city, which has thrived ever since. Alicante's title includes the praiseworthy designation of "eminent, loyal, noble, illustrious and always faithful". Since 1524, the coat of arms includes a golden fleece, by permission of Carlos V. Today, thanks to the fantastic Alicante beaches and the excellent climate, Spanish charm and tradition, as well as tourist attractions and Alicante museums, Alicante is a first rate tourist location.
